Observing Systems

A fundamental goal of ACT is to provide the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) and other environmental observing efforts with information required for the deployment and operation of reliable and cost-effective networks.  The goal of IOOS is the routine and timely provision of comprehensive data and information on the past, present, and future state of the ocean, the nation's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), the Great Lakes, and the nation's estuaries. This is achieved through the coordinated development of observing and prediction systems that efficiently link observational data from multiple user groups through integrated data management on global, national, regional, and local scales.

ACT works directly with several related agencies, organizations, and programs including:

In particular, ACT is committed to supporting the National Federation of Regional Associations (NFRA) for Coastal and Ocean Observing. Regional Associations (RAs) provide the primary framework for orchestrating the required collaboration within each region and are responsible for the design and coordinated operation of regional coastal ocean observing systems.
