Patuxent River Buoy Data Archive

ACT's Mid-Atlantic CBL Partner maintains a water quality/sea-surface interface buoy in the Patuxent River, a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.  This buoy measures water quality parameters at the surface and on the bottom of the river as well as meteorological conditions.  In addition to routine monitoring, the buoy is equipped with accessory input ports that allow us to add sensors and to use the buoy as a “testbed” for ACT verifications.
Data Description:
Archived data for the years that the Patuxent Rover Buoy has been moored long-term at its current position are available for download.  The data files are in comma-delineated text files suitable to import into Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheets programs.  These files contain the raw data and have not been post-corrected in any way.  In addition to the raw data files, ACT is providing the post deployment calibration values as well as extractive chlorophyll values to enable end users to adjust the data appropriately in response to both bio-fouling and the inherent limitations of in-situ fluorometers.  Please address all questions to Tim Koles at koles@cbl.umces.edu

This realtime data is considered provisional.

Data obtained from the buoy is sent to a receiving station via radio waves and then transferred to the Chesapeake Biological Lab over the Internet. Data is then processed automatically for viewing on the Web. At no point have the data been reviewed or edited and thus errors from the buoy can and will be displayed online. Errors can occur due to a variety of reasons including biological fouling or physical damage to the sensors. Data is considered provisional and should not be cited. Data is reviewed and checked for accuracy and are available upon request.
